Fargo Time!

8 Comments It's Fargo time. Yep, time to get this bike ready for the year.

This bike has taken me so many places. It's been set up in so many ways. It's been my bike of choice for 90% of my riding in 2009. It's time...Time to strip it down to clean, inspect and rebuild. Time to get this bike ready for the Gnat's Fargo Adventure Ride (I'll be posting soon, maybe Thursday, with more info). Time to plan where it will take me in 2010?
I'm going to make just a few minor tweaks to my set up. Not much though. Most notable change will likely be the wheels where I plan to use my DT-Swiss 240s/Salsa Semi wheels. The Edges will get a little rebuild and serve as my primary wheelset on bike with no name. I'll also install a production Woodchipper in a 46cm as I've been riding a prototype 42cm.

As a side note, the Fargo appears to be really gaining traction around the globe. Guitar Ted did a post not too long and mentioned some people "get" it and some don't. I think folks are starting to get it. This past weekend I was asked by 3 USA dealers and 2 of international distributors to fly out and do a Fargo Adventure Ride in their city or in their country. Wow!
All this talk about the Fargo and talking about adventure rides has got me worked up to ride. It looks like I'll be back on schedule to ride on Wednesday. I can't wait.

International Fargo Adventure rides? Whoa! Very cool. The Fargo-naut Nation is growing, that is for sure. It has to be satisfying to some degree to have this sort of feedback going into Salsa's re-branding. I am really happy for you and the Salsa crew.
I think one thing I didn't bring out with my "get it" or not comment was that things like the Fargo are good for both the "get it" camp and for the ones that do not "get it" because there is no indifference. The Fargo is instilling passion for the type of riding cyclists believe in, whether the ride is on a Fargo or not. That's cool and a rare thing in cycling.
My hope is that the "adventuring" type cycling grows as I believe it is in alignment with what not only will be good for cyclists, but for people as a whole. I mean, how many of us can actually identify with what is put out there as "urban cycling". People in big cities? Yes. But that leaves a very big chunk of us out there with nothing to identify with. Adventuring can be done in an urban setting or a rural setting. In a concrete jungle, or in a real jungle, and everywhere between. It can include everyone.
Well, I am preaching to the choir here, but I feel pretty passionate about this subject, so thanks for the Fargo and the Vaya, and for Salsa's new direction. I'm right there with it!
Spinning off for a new adventure unafraid of anything the world might throw at me. Find your Fargo.
A friend of mine and I were just staring at the beauty of my Fargo as it hung in the bike stand. It's even better to pedal it miles from home.
I hope I can afford to go on an international Fargo Adventure ride!
I really gotta get me one of those....
I'd say they are popular! I tried to order mine yesterday, and ya'all are sold out of complete bikes. We had to go with Plan B: Order a Fargo frameset and build 'er up from scratch as a singlespeed. Woot!
Gnat, that's very cool about doing Fargo Adventure rides in different areas. One area to consider might be Death Valley in California. I'm heading out there for a Century in April. I'll be riding my Casseroll, but the Fargo is coming too. I'm going to plan to take it out on as much as time, and my legs, allow.
Thanks Guys for the support.
I have grand visions of fun rides all over the place. Hope to ride with each of you sometime in 2010. Errin, I think you are on to something. Death Valley just sounds so appropriate for the Fargo.
I appreciate the stories and photo's very much! I hope to be on an Adventure Ride if it takes place in Europe. Collecting parts for my Fargo for now and enjoying it.
