About this website

This site is a visual and verbal diary of my world. My world is filled with bikes, family and images. I like bikes and I like cameras. I like the way they go together. Joy for me comes when I can capture an image that shows the true feeling of riding. Images here are often experiments and explorations of color, tone and texture. Fargo - 1 Year Ago Today

1 year ago today, I left on a 3 day Fargo adventure in California with 3 friends (also riding Fargos). It was simply awesome and something I will never forget. When I returned home to Minnesota, I left my Fargo at a bike shop in the LA area. I left it there for quite some time to use as a demo. When it returned, I was in Mukluk mode and let it sit. Time went on and I decided to leave it alone so that I would ride other bikes. I figured I needed a change and thought I'd diversify a bit. In the end, my Fargo ended up at Park Tool as a long term loaner. In fact it is still there.

This weekend I finally started building a new Fargo. I started from scratch and am building this bike up pretty darn cool. While most of the parts are old and off old bikes and other builds, I gotta say it is coming together nicely. Sometime in 2012 I hope to ride this bike across Japan. It's not ready for the reveal yet, but I do plan to ride it on Sunday at Ben Witt's Fall Gravel Tour. This may be my nicest build yet. I can't wait to ride it and share my build.

Hi Gnat,

Nice bike! Wow, you're going to ride across Japan? Awesome! Alone? I lived there for ten years (been home 6 months), and in fact I just missed hooking up with you there back in 2005 or 6. Anyway, have a great trip, and can't wait to see the photos. I did a ton of riding there, a few tours and a couple of S24O bikepacks. Good times.

Cheers,

Chris (was) in Japan.

Chris, thanks for the note. I can't believe it's been that long since my last trip. Hope you are well and that your return to USA has been good. The trip itself is still at the hopeful point. Still trying to work it out but I will be ready with the perfect bike!

Gnat, I really think you NEED some Fargo touring here in New Zealand!! Accompanied by your favourite camera.

Cheers, The Old Man who would be very happy to be your tour guide.
